Peter Lillywhite commenced at Duncraig Senior High School (Duncraig SHS) in August 2019 and is the school’s 6th Principal in the 40 years since the school opened in 1979. Peter, having over 23 years’ experience in education in a variety of schools across the state, was previously an Associate Principal at Rossmoyne SHS and Mindarie SC, worked as Health and Physical Education HOLA at Karratha SHS and taught at Leonora SHS.
Being heavily involved in sport as a child, it was natural for Peter to study a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education at UWA however his passion for teaching emerged while coaching junior sport and studying at university.
Realising he could have more effect on student success in leadership roles, Peter returned to university, completing a Masters in School Leadership at UWA in 2015. He is passionate about teaching and learning and has significant experience in building teacher capacity. He has established frameworks for teaching and learning in several schools and has been responsible for leading cultural change.
His vision for Duncraig SHS is to ensure every student can access learning and every teacher can provide a safe, engaging and accountable classroom environment.
Peter is still involved in sport, and enjoys fishing and camping with his family and friends.
